Barcelona Flamenco Ballet presents a bold interpretation of Bizet's iconic myth, Carmen, which goes beyond the classic narrative and addresses the topical issue of the struggle for women's rights. In this version, Carmen, a strong and passionate gypsy, confronts an unequal world and becomes a symbol of freedom and courage. Her turbulent romance with the bullfighter Escamillo turns into a thrilling story, expressed through impressive choreography, complemented by the virtuoso technique of zapateado — rhythmic heel tapping that gives rise to the fire and passion of flamenco.

David Gutiérrez Molina is a striking phenomenon on the contemporary scene. Born in Barcelona in 1994, he began studying flamenco at the age of four and, at 16, won the Best Flamenco Soloist award at the Gibraltar Festival. Today, as the founder and choreographer of the Barcelona Flamenco Ballet, he is leading the troupe to international recognition, creating productions that have been performed on the biggest stages in Europe, Asia, and America.
David is compared to “Freddie Mercury in flamenco” for his vibrant charisma, powerful energy on stage, and ability to touch audiences to the depths of their souls. Just as Freddie Mercury became a symbol of rock, David Gutierrez has become an icon in the world of flamenco.
